Scholarship Awards Program

Apply Now!

The AHT, together with Waterbury Newton Law Firm have established a scholarship program to provide financial assistance to former residents and descendants of former Africville residents who pursue post secondary education, as well as to students who demonstrate an effort to further the purpose of the Society through community advocacy, research, publications and training. The scholarship is possible through a donation of $100,000 in seed money from the law firm, Waterbury Newton. The fund is a portion of legal fees received in the settling of an action against the former City of Halifax.

The fund will provide annual scholarships in all fields of study, provided that studies are through an accredited Canadian college or university. Applicants to the Awards Program must show proof of residency and enrolment acceptance to such accredited post-secondary institution. High school students should have their official transcripts sent via email or letter mail to Africville Heritage Trust.

This year, the deadline to apply is June 30th, 2024. If you would like more information about this program, please visit the Program Outline.
